Bruce Sterling talks about the Singularity
This (70MB Mp3) has been on boingboing some time ago but i’ve only managed recently to have a look at it. It’s is a recording of a speech given by one of my favorit authors Bruce Sterling at the LongNow Foundation.
Bruce talks about the subject of the Singularity. The Singularity is an idea quite popular in sci-fi which describes a point in time at which the speed by which technical progress is made can’t no longer be understood by human intelligence. The origins of this idea go back to von Neuman and Venor Vinge.
The speech showcases the major points of the Singularity and gives them a critical look. Besides the speech is also damn entertaining!

The history of programming languages
Some of you probably know this diagram which shows the history of the unix operating system familly. It’s IMHO less known that the same author also created a diagram which shows a detailed history of programming languages

To get a nicely printed version of this, fetch the recent Lehmanns Fachbuchhandlung catalog. It has the timeline on it’s flipside.
